Bólstaðarhlíð is a farm in Northwest Iceland, where the same family has lived since 1825. The small church nearby was built in 1888 by one of our ancestors and still stands as a quiet part of the landscape.

GETTING HERE
All international flights from the USA, EU, and Canada arrive at Keflavik International Airport. This airport is about 45 minutes by car or bus to Reykjavik, the capital city. The major airline is Icelandair, but many other airlines line to Keflavik,
From Reykjavik you can also get a domestic flight at Reykjavik Airport to Akureyri – known as the capital of the North. This airport is only served by Icelandair. You can buy a separate ticket to the north or look for a package when booking your trip.
If you are not renting a car you can take the FlyBus bus from the Keflavik Airport to Reykjavik transfer station, the Municipal Airport or your holtel. is islands most reliable and comfortable bus company.
There are also municipal buses from Reykjavik or Akueryeri to Blondous, but they are infrequent and slow. We recommend renting a car.
Bike Transport questions? You can travel with your bike on all airlines flying to Iceland. Use a certified bike bag for maximum protection. When you arrive there will be mechanics and tools to assist with a proper bike build, and bike and bag storage. If you rent a car, get one that fits 5 bags to fit the bike.
Buses can transport bikes packed in a bag.

You can rent a car from most major car companies at both Keflavik and Akureyri airports. We recommend staying with a known brand. Smaller companies can presure you into unneeded insurance or large deposits.
There are several camper van rental companies. Most are very reputable. This can be a fun way to explore the country side and enrich you trip.

TIPS ABOUT ICELAND
Just a few ideas and some great links
Traditional iceland food is amazing. It is from the people , land and transition.
Breakfast is usually cold, with sweet breads, cheese and meats.
There are lots of traditional soups. My favorites are Suppasvepa , or Fish Soup.
Dinners are normally Salmon, Cod, or Artic Char. Lamb is a great tradition, and the best lamb in the world. However, hamburgers are becoming popular, so if you are craving something more transtional, you can always find a burger and fries.
If you are looking for groceries for your cabin or campsite, there is a nice general market in town , the Kjörbuðin, open 9 am to 6 pm
You can get a glass of beer or wine at most restaurants. There are many great breweries in Iceland. It is good to get familiar with them so you can get one you like.

To purchase beer or wine, you can only get it at the Vinbuðen. There is one in Blonduos and it is open daily 2 to 6 pm. So plan ahead .
The native language is Icelandic. It is nice to know a few words to get you by, as well as how to pronounce the cities and place names.
